Privacy Policy
Tag (TagRush on the App Store) · effective 24 September 2026
The short version. Tag needs no account, and asks for no personal details. An online profile, for friends and leaderboards, is yours to make or not, and to delete. Your progress stays on your phone. When you play online, the name you chose and your moves go to our game server so the game can be played. Videos come from Google AdMob, only ever when you choose to watch one — and Google receives some information about your device when the app gets one ready.
What stays on your phone
Your name, the year you were born, your settings, the maps you build, your best scores, your Journey progress, and your coins and powers are stored only on your phone. We cannot see them, and deleting the app deletes them.
What the game server receives
When you play online, the app connects to our game server, which runs on Railway, a hosting company. It sends:
- the name you chose, which other players in the same room see;
- your moves during a round;
- the settings of a room you host, and your map if you choose to play one of your own;
- technical details of what your version of the app can do, so everyone in a room gets a game they can all draw.
Like anything on the internet, the server sees your phone's internet address in order to talk to it. Unless you make an online profile (below), it keeps no record of you and no history of your games. Its operating logs record what happens in rooms, including the names of the players in them, and are kept for a limited time so problems can be fixed. The server also publishes how many people are playing, as numbers only.
Your online profile (friends and leaderboards)
Only if you choose to make one, on the Friends screen. It is not available to anyone the app understands to be under 13. With a profile, our server (on Railway, with its database) keeps:
- a random identifier and a secret your phone uses to prove it is you (we store only a scrambled form of the secret);
- the name you play under, which your friends and the leaderboards show;
- your friend code, and the list of friends you have added or who added you;
- for each online round you finish: how many tags you made, whether you won, whether you won a Knockout, and when;
- when you were last online.
Your friends can see your name, whether you are playing, and the code of the room you are in so they can join you. Leaderboards show names and totals to everyone who opens them. Nothing here is used for advertising or shared with anybody else.
Delete it at any time in the app: Settings → Delete my online profile. That removes your profile, your friendships and your results from our database straight away. A profile is also deleted if you ask us by email.
Videos (Google AdMob)
Tag offers videos you can choose to watch for coins or for an extra life. They come from Google AdMob, and no video ever plays unless you ask for it. So that one is ready when you do, the app loads a video in the background, and to do that Google receives information such as your device type, your internet address and how you interact with ads — and, only if you allow tracking when Apple asks, your device's advertising identifier, which Google may use to personalise ads. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, Google's consent form asks you first, and you can change your answer later under Settings → Ad privacy choices in the app. Videos are limited to content rated for teens and adults.
If the year you were born means you may be under 16, none of that is asked of you: the app asks Google only for videos suitable for children, tells Google you are under the age of consent (or a child, under 13), and nothing is personalised or tracked. How Google uses this information: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
App updates (Expo)
The app checks for updates through Expo's update service, which receives basic technical information — such as the app's version and your phone's platform — to send the right update. expo.dev/privacy.
App health (Expo)
To find crashes and slow screens, the app reports to EAS Observe, Expo's monitoring service: how long it takes to start, errors and crashes, and a few facts about play — that a round finished, on which kind of map and in which mode, a Journey level and its stars, joining an online game. These are tied to an anonymous ID that is made for this installation of the app and is not linked to you; reinstalling the app makes a new one. No names, no room codes and nothing you type are included. expo.dev/privacy.
Children
Tag is meant for teens and adults and is not directed at children under 13. The first time it opens it asks the year you were born, and it treats anybody who may be under 16 as described above. The year stays on the phone.
Your choices
- Tracking: say no when Apple asks, or change it any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. Videos still play without it; they just are not personalised using your advertising identifier.
- Ad consent in Europe: Settings in the app → Ad privacy choices.
- Everything on your phone: delete the app.
- Your online profile: Settings in the app → Delete my online profile.
- Anything on the server: email us and we will remove what we can find.
We do not sell personal information.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be on this page with a new date.
